Turning Wedding Photo Challenges Into Timeless Memories
If you don’t get the photos you want on your wedding day, don’t worry—I’ve got a hidden gem for you in the Heights! We retook our wedding photos because our first photographer bullied the second one, and we didn’t get many of the film shots we were hoping for on our special day.
If you find yourself in a similar situation and need to retake your wedding photos, here are some tips to make sure they turn out exactly the way you want them to:
1. Create a Mood Board
I knew I wanted my photoshoot to feel like a vintage, classic romance, so I turned to Pinterest for inspiration. Having a mood board helped me clearly define my vision as a visual person. When planning your photos, express everything you want—don’t hold back!
If you want something unique, hire a photographer with a keen eye for creativity who can bring your ideas to life. A strong vision combined with the right photographer can make all the difference.

2. Find a Photographer Who Does More Than Weddings
If you want your photos to stand out, hire a photographer with an eye for creativity and experience beyond just weddings. They’ll better understand how to transform your vision into reality. Look for someone who listens to your ideas, collaborates with you, and offers options instead of simply telling you what to do. Trust me, it makes all the difference!
3. Choose the Right Location
Choosing the Houston Heights area was a no-brainer—I grew up there, and it felt personal and meaningful. I wanted a location with plenty of walkable places, and if you know Houston, you know that’s hard to find!
When picking a spot, remember that time is money. Choose a location with enough variety so you’re not driving all over town. The Heights is so underrated for wedding shoots, and here’s why it should be on your list:
Sweet Bribery
250 w 19th St. Houston, Tx 77008
*Fun fact: I am lactose intolerant, but that didn’t stop me from getting an ice cream
I love You, Wall
Artist: Shelbi Nicole
Location: Harold’s Restaurant, Tap Room & Terrace, 350 W. 19th St. Houston, TX 77008
*Super unique wall that says I love you in different languages and phrases. The wall is also red, black, and white.
Explore the green strip between Heights Blvd. There’s a lovely gazebo perfect for wedding photos, greenery, dog-friendly spots, and art you can take pictures with!
19th Street
A Heights, 19th Street staple is full of photo opportunities that look straight out of a vintage catalog. From the historic old theatre to Jeni’s Ice Cream and even the charming alleys, you’ll find plenty of secluded and unique spots for beautiful photos.
4. Study Your Mood Board Before You Go
Take some time to review your mood board and make a note of specific shots and poses you’d like to emulate with your partner. If possible, practice them beforehand to shake off any nerves. That way, when taking photos, you can focus on being in the moment and having fun!
Keep it fun and stress-free! After your wedding, you’re in that magical “I don’t give an F about anything” mindset—so don’t do anything that will stress your life. Just relax, enjoy the moment, and have a blast! You’ve earned it!
